The metal detecting hobby is full of excitement and great fun. No wonder, for anyone who has had an interest with this Hobby and is determined to get started. No one will blame you for it. You will start a hobby that you can almost do any where in the world.
As a beginner, you will need some basic tips to get you started on your hunt for treasure. Follow these tips and you will never go wrong.
Identify good producing spots to make your treasure hunting fun and a success. some good areas where you can start a metal detecting adventures are as follows:
Backyards - when you start your metal detecting hobby, do not be afraid to dig up your own yard; avoid the misconception that you already know what"s there and no valuable finds can be dug up. This also gives you a good chance to learn how the new equipment you just bought works. Try all the things around you home and get used to the sounds the detector makes for each type of metal, it will come in handy when in the field.
Forests and Woods - this is a great day out in nature even if you don"t find anything and for treasure hunting because in a lot of treasure stories this is one of the places treasures are hidden then never recovered because it all looks the same when they come back to dig it up.
Local Parks - Even though these are very well hunted, every year brings out new better detectors that may find something others missed, and the constant stream of visitors always replenishes the lost items.
Streams, Creeks and Riverbanks - this type of hunting will require a different type of detector, I use a garret sea hunter Mark 11. here you need to decide your passion if its shipwrecks, old ferry landings, old swimming holes or beaches if your on the coast. Remember gold will never change the way it looks in water no mater how long it was in the water.
Education- learn your metal detector, inside and out. Read all the information you can get your hands on, if you"re going after a well know treasure a good trick to use is to start off like your writing a book about it, gather all the information out there on it read every book about it, then start writing you own book about it, a lot of times really good research will lead you to find out what your looking for has already been found and if not your new knowledge will give you a much better chance of finding it. Every chance you get practice with your detector and learn what your metal detector is trying to tell you.
Forums - On the internet there a great groups of people out there that will share information and help you get started, remember act like you want to be treated and all will go well.
Hope these basics get you interested to move you to the next level of trying out the hobby, if you still not ready to buy one get with some one with like interests from one of the local groups in your area, if there like me they probably have at least 3 metal detectors and would be willing to take you out and let you use one of there"s and see if you truly love this as we do.
