Tori Amos

Tori Amos performed in Atlanta last night at the Fox Theater, a tremendous venue to see a concert like this - only I didnâ t see the show. In fact, I didnâ t even know she was coming to Atlanta until this morning - roughly 7-8 hours after she left. Needless to say, Iâ m kind of crushed. There have now been three shows in the last few months in town that I would have loved to see (this one would head the list, along with Rufus Wainwright and Ryan Adams). I really need to get â plugged inâ again - perhaps I need a longer - or newer - chord! One of the highlights of my career in radio/records was meeting her in Norfolk Virginia after a show at Chrysler Hall.

L.E.O. â One I missed

â Alpacas Orglingâ was released in 2006 while I was on hiatus, and so my stumbling across it this morning was purely by chance. The CD is a tribute to 70â s pop icons Electric Light Orchestra, and in particular the writing and producing of Jeff Lynne - and it does a great job of paying homage while at the same time creating a pop gem of a recording that stands up extremely well on its own merits. With a clearly apparent movement towards sixties and early seventies pop sounds now being heard in a large amount of new releases, this CD fits in very nicely among the current mix. Even though his appearance on the recording is limited to one song, hearing Andy Sturmer (Jellyfish) on anything after all this time is a real treat, and nearly makes the CD a must have for that reason alone.

So How Well Did Radiohead Do With â In Rainbows?â

Remember our recent post about the new Radiohead CD being released online only? One of the more interesting aspects about that story was that the band let all of us, the consumers, decide how much we were willing to pay for the music. Well, a survey has been released regarding just how well that idea went - 62% of all downloaders world wide opted to pay nothing. Of the rest that willingly paid, the average selling price was $6.00. Clearly, if you ask folks to determine the market value for you, then that will fall somewhere between zero and not much. Having said that, perhaps Radiohead stays in the business of offering all of their new music on their own, for the average price of $6 per CD?

Best Of 2007

Now that we have officially entered the final month of the year, itâ s always fun to look back and consider what music you ended up listening to the most, what was the best movie you saw, the best book that you readâ I will kick start the discussion by listing my favorites - I would love to see some of yours! Best CD - Thinking back over the year, the CD that stayed in my car the longest (and still gets played) would be Sky Blue Sky by Wilco. Alt-Country had a big year in 2007, and of everything I heard my three to choose from also included Easy Tiger from Ryan Adams and West by Lucinda Williams. But the Wilco CD to me is just brilliant, and Iâ m still not tired of hearing it.

The Re-Awakening of Juniper Lane

Many bands in the annals of rock history have come back from various forms of extreme diversity, but few (if any) share the kind of obstacle Baltimoreâ s Juniper Lane had to face. Critics from all over the globe acclaimed the band to be on the verge of becoming the next big thing with the release in 2003 of â Sirens From a Mile Back.â With an exploding fan base and nearly unanimous critical acclaim, everything seemed to be aligned for world wide recognition of the band when vocalist Vivion Smith was nearly killed in a rock climbing accident. Smith spent a week in a coma, and then a year rehabilitating her pianistâ s hands. The group finally reconnected, and now four years later have released the aptly titled â Waken From Yourself.

Sport Moviesâ Exciting as well as entertaining

What do we expect from movies? No doubt, entertainment is the first thing that we would expect from movies. What else? After long hectic schedules of daily work, we would often prefer to go for an amazing movie that can give us lot of excitement and good fun, than those tragic ones. Sport movies are the kind of movies which can give people utmost joy and pleasure. The sport movies are built upon sports settings like football field or baseball stadium, arena, or the Olympics etc. Often you would find a competitive event or various athletic events being the central point upon which the whole story of the movie is built. Mostly the protagonist of the story is a boxer, footballer or a racer or any other sports person according to the demands of the story.

Music Downloads

Downloading music is slowly taking over and becoming more dominant as its popularity grows. But what can we expect to see in the future of music downloading? When CDs were first introduced there was a huge explosion of people buying them, they were popular and have been ever since they were first introduced. But then digital music began to become more commercialised. Of course, digital music always existed alongside CDs, they had to be digital before being burned onto the CDs, but the formats used were incompatible with most of the technology people had at home. The overall market had to be satisfied so it was not a widely used format across the general public.

Music Downloading in the Age after Napster

For the music lovers who simply cannot get their fill of new music, the internet and the technology which allows us to download music was like a great blessing in disguise which fell down from heaven. Suddenly we were able to obtain whatever we wanted, when we wanted. The reality of this practice soon came to us all, that in fact, it was quite illegal. So when Napster finally fell, there were a few complaints heard for a while and then silence. What could be said? We all knew it wasnâ t right, but then again, we just loved getting all that music for free, and nothing can really beat free music and even free music software. The fact is that no one really wants to be a criminal (even if it doesnâ t feel like that), and those who were singled out for hefty lawsuits by the music industry are definitely feeling the pain now.

A Welcome Change in the Music Industry

For those among you who love music, the digital age which brought with it the amazing ability to download music was like a gift from heaven. Suddenly the Gods had come down with a magical wand and touched our little computer screens, blessing them with the ability to obtain so many sounds for so little money. Indeed, no moneyâ "and, well that was the problem, because the reality soon hit us all that the practice wasnâ t altogether, very legal. When Napster finally went under, there were complaints but they soon grew silent. What more could be said? We were all quite aware that this practice wasnâ t right, even if it didnâ t feel illegal. But then again, we just loved getting all that music for free and even free music software.
